While building a new home, you’d want as much space as possible. So, accordingly, you’d like to have more floor-to-floor height.
Floor-to-floor height can be defined as the vertical distance between the finished floor level of one floor to the finished floor level of the floor above it.
Fortunately, now an increased height can be done on floors in Delhi and Gurugram. So, the question is: How should you decide the height of your floors? We recommend that plot owners should go for an 11 ft floor-to-floor height. This is a good height for all the habitable floors and the basement. It gives a clear height of appx. 10 ft 2 or 3 inches.
So, why we think 11 ft floor-to-floor height is the ideal height:
Generally, this height is enough to give us a sense of good space
Can be conveniently air-conditioned
Can be conveniently lit with the help of basic ceiling lights without losing much light
Proportions of 8 ft doors and windows look apt for this height
Although, there are a few situations where we would recommend more floor-to-floor height. Such situations can include the following:
You need a ductable VRV
It is a personal preference
You want a complete false ceiling
If the spaces are very large
As you increase the floor-to-floor height, the following are the impacts that you should be aware of:
There would be more need for air conditioning as the space has increased
Internal space might reduce as the size of the staircase increases to accommodate more steps
There will be an increase in the cost of construction
If room sizes are not large, then the room will look disproportional due to extra height
Now, we hope you have an understanding of which floor-to-floor height you should go for.
